Justin Thomas has had a rough season on the greens and displayed a subpar performance as per the golfer’s standards. However, keeping in view his veteran experience, the golfer bagged a place in the US Ryder Cup team as one of Captain Zach Johnson’s picks. Thomas also received enormous support from his other teammates of the Ryder Cup.
Yet, looking at the pressure the event creates, one would expect Thomas to be under deep concern for his Fortinet Championship finish. However, the golfer has responded with full negation of any stress looming over his head with regard to the Californian tournament. His statement explained him to be in a good space of mind along with having full faith in his experienced gameplay.
Justin Thomas reacts to his Ryder Cup selection
In a recent press conference, the PGA Tour golfer revealed that he is not concerned about proving anything to anyone in specific as he has already been selected for the Ryder Cup team. He stated that he is at the event to play well and grab an opportunity for himself.
He acknowledged his game being rusty after being off-court for a long time about a month. But matters get easier once he gets back to the scene with an excited front. The addition of extra pressure is the cause of the propelling outlook for the PGA Tour event.
2023 season for the experienced golfer
The last victory for the golf star came at the 2022 PGA Championship. For the 2023 season, he has only had about three top-10 finishes and missed the cut at 3 out of the 4 major championships. He combined over 41 in those events, twice he shot in the 80s at major too.
He was at the 26th spot in the previous year in the World Rankings. While it was a good standing overall, this was Thomas’ worst ranking ever since 2016. The Ryder Cup will witness him entering on the 24th spot. His display at the prestigious event has been exceptional, holding a 6-2-1 record.
Zach Jonhson’s reason for including JT in his picks
The experience was the basis of JT making it into the American side. When Zach had called, the golfer had felt a lot of emotions including a sense of relief before anything else. He stated how he has had a lot of sleepless nights and finally, he has received an answer for the same.
He focused on aiming for a positive attitude no matter what the result might turn out to be. His response conveyed a nervous jitter from the golfer’s side, despite hosting a face of nonchalance. Johnson and his teammates will head to Rome by the end of next week. While they haven’t won on European soil till now since 1993, this week’s tournament is more of a warm-up for Thomas and Max Homa, the only two players playing.
JT is trying to get hold of things once more after adopting a few changes to his game. He parted ways with his long-time putting coach and has decreased reliance on his father as a swinging coach. He explained about trying to gain ownership of his game and look less at the negatives of the past season.
Justin Thomas explained having a lot of faith in himself and not being far off the right phase of the game. He expressed how it takes just one right week and one right call on the field to get back in rhythm. The golf world would be excited to witness the inauguration of the Italian greens for the event and how matters turn out to be for the Ryder Cup expert.
